A seventh-month pregnant woman and her three children were washed away by flood on April 2 in Mwatate, Kenya’s Coast.
Mwatate Assistant Commissioner Margaret Mwaniki confirmed the incident saying it transpired at night when they were asleep.
“They were swept away by the flood while in the house,” said Mwaniki.
The body of one of three children had been found, and the search for the rest was ongoing.
The woman’s father stated that he was told on Sunday night that her daughter and children had gone missing after flash floods swept away their home.
“Her neighbours told us that the flood water went through the windows and swept the whole house away,” said the woman’s father.
He has requested the government to assist them in finding his family members’ bodies so they can give them a proper send-off.
After a prolonged drought, Kenya has experienced heavy rains in the last few weeks. The heavy downpour has led to property destruction and people displacement.
