Former Kenyan athlete is dead

Legendary Kenyan athlete Dan Omwansa is dead.

Omwansa, 74, died on Wednesday, February 17, 2022, at a Nairobi hospital, the family announced.

The deceased’s wife Esther Omwansa said his late husband was suffering from stroke and high blood pressure.

The track great competed in the 400m, 800m, 1,000m, and 1,500m races, among others. He competed for Kenya in a number of different sports, including the 1972 Munich Olympic Games, where he competed in the 800m.

He was originally scheduled to compete in the 4x400m relays, but he was substituted by the late Paul Sang due to injury.

The burial arrangements are ongoing.
