Ex-Kenyan Member of Parliament John Serut is dead.

Serut died on the wee hours of Wednesday, said his daughter Mitchelle Serut.

The former Mt. Elgon legislator succumbed to cancer at the Nairobi Hospital.

“Rest in peace to the love of my life. I hate that you won't see my children. I hate that you won't get to see the woman I become but I'll make you proud. I love you dad,” Mitchelle posted on her Twitter page.

The deceased has been in and out of the hospital. Mitchelle had made an appeal to Kenyans in October 2021 for assistance in defraying the family's healthcare fees, which totalled Ksh 20 million ($20,000).

“We need the amount on top to cater for an insurance cover as we have exhausted the existing one due to bills amounting to Sh14 million this year alone," said Mitchelle.

He served as Mt Elgon's lawmaker for two terms, from 2002 to 2007, before being defeated by Fred Kapondi in the subsequent election.

Serut has died aged 67 and he is survived by a wife, five children and three granddaughters.
