Four people have been confirmed dead and scores injured in an early morning road crash along Mombasa-Nairobi highway in Athi River, Eastern Kenya.
The 4 am incident involved a lorry and a 14 seater Nissan. The latter was reported to have rammed into a stationary lorry, killing four people on the spot.
It is still unknown how many passengers were in the Nissan, but the survivors, including the driver, were rushed to different hospitals for treatment.
The 14 seater vehicle was heading to Nairobi from Machakos town, southeast of Nairobi.
“It’s reported that about 4:53 am at Mombasa Road opposite Total Petrol station a Nissan has crushed from behind a stationery Trailer. Four passengers onboard in the Nissan are confirmed dead,” said police.
According to an eyewitness, the lorry driver did not put signs to warn other motorists after the vehicle stalled last night.
Police have asked drivers to be extra vigilant to avoid unnecessary crashes.
