Four elderly lynched in Kenya’s southwestern over alleged witchcraft

Four people accused of practising witchcraft were on Sunday killed in Kisii County, Southwestern Kenya.

Jemima Mironga, 60, Agnes Ototo, 57, Sigara Onkware, 62, and Sindege Mayaka, 85, were burnt alive over the purported bewitching of a secondary school student.

According to the enraged residents, the student, who had been sick, was allegedly kidnapped the night before the incident and found unconscious on the route to his residence.

The locals further claimed the student had previously been bewitched and victimized.

The first to be lynched on the scene were two elderly women.

After the initial suspects mentioned them, two more, a woman and an elderly man, were lynched and set ablaze.

One woman was reported to have been dragged from her home, where she had barricaded herself.
