A day after three people lost their lives in a deadly road accident in Naivasha, northwest of Nairobi, four other people died following another accident along Nairobi-Mombasa Highway on Wednesday.

The accident involved a 44-seater bus and a trailer at Manyani.

The bus service, Dreamline Express LTD, was heading to Mombasa from Busia, western Kenya.

According to reports, the bus driver was attempting to overtake a trailer when it collided with its container, losing control and diverting into the path of an oncoming trailer travelling in the opposite direction, resulting in a head-on collision.

The deceased consisted of both the drivers, the turn boy of the lorry and a female passenger.

Seventeen other passengers were injured and were rushed to the Moi County Referral Hospital for treatment.

The government had urged motorists to be careful when ferrying passengers to their destinations during this festive season.

“Some 4,347 people have lost their lives since January this year to date. Last year we lost 3,707 people during the same period,” said the government spokesperson Colonel (Rtd) Cyrus Oguna.
