Rescue efforts are still on in Homa Bay, Kenya's southwestern to locate four remaining people who were among the victims of a capsized boat in Lake Victoria.
The boat, which carried 19 people, capsized around 500 meters off Homa Bay's pier beach.
The boat was sailing from Homa Bay to Ndhuru Beach, which is roughly 12 kilometers away in Suba South constituency in the region.
The incident took place on Tuesday night.
The rescue mission is coordinated by the Kenya Coast Guard Service, Kenya Red Cross, Kenya Maritime Authority, and the Beach Management Unit.
The death toll on Wednesday hit seven after five more bodies were retrieved.
Eight people were injured during the incident, two were given first aid and later discharged, and others were still hospitalized.
Bad weather was reported to be the cause of the accident.
"It is very difficult to determine the cause of the boat accident. The boat was seaworthy and with the bad weather, water started seeping into the boat," said the County Disaster Management officer Eluid Onyango.©Standard Gazette, 2021.
