Kenya’s Gen Z has called their compatriots to come out in large numbers to protest against the punitive Finance Bill 2024.
The Bill, proposed by the government, is set to increase taxes, a move that has sparked outrage among young Kenyans who are already grappling with a high cost of living.
President William Ruto has come under fire from many Kenyans for championing the passage of the Bill, despite the knowledge that it will further burden the already high cost of living.

The youth are of the view that the Bill is a product of the IMF and World Bank, with President Ruto being seen as a mere instrument in its implementation.
The Bill went through its first reading in the Parliament last week after 204 legislators overwhelmingly voted for it and 115 against it.
Ahead of the Parliament vote, several parts of the country, mainly Nairobi, were marred by the anti-bill protests.
The protesters barricaded major roads, paralysing transportation for most of the day. The angry protesters also engaged police in a running battle, leading to injuries of some of the officers and protesters.
The young generation has organised a mother of demonstration tomorrow to force the government to do away with the Bill.
“We call on everyone to come out and join the nationwide strike,” said Gen Z.
