The Kenyan gospel artist Betty Bayo, whose real name was Beatrice Wairimu Mbugua is dead. She passed away on Monday, November 10, 2025, after a long and tough battle with cancer.
Reports indicate that Betty had been receiving treatment at one of Kenya’s top hospitals, and her former partner, Pastor Kanyari, confirmed the sad news.
He shared a heartfelt message on social media, saying, “R.I.P Mama Sky, the mother to my kids.”
Betty Bayo gained fame with her uplifting hit “Eleventh Hour,” which resonated deeply within Kenya’s Christian communities as a song of faith and encouragement.
Her peers in the industry remember her not just for her incredible musical talent, but also for her humility, joyful spirit, and her commitment to serving others.
In a statement, the well-respected church leader Bishop Benson Gathungu Kamau (sometimes known as Bishop Kiengei) revealed that Betty had been fighting advanced blood cancer (leukaemia). He reflected on her legacy, saying, “She leaves behind a legacy of a great contribution in the growth of the Gospel Music industry … a soul that maximized its full potential.”
