Residents of Sigoro village, Baringo County, Kenya's Rift Valley, were on Sunday evening gripped with sorrow after a 70-year-old man committed suicide over a land row with family members.

The deceased, Joseph Keitany, reportedly went missing the night before, only his body to be found dangling on a tree with a rope around his neck.

Keitany's body was discovered by a teen fishing on a nearby river, who then reported the matter to the authorities.

"It is alleged that Keitany went missing on Saturday at around 10 PM; efforts in locating him, however, went futile not until the following day when his body was found dangling on a tree by a teen fishing on the river," said the area Chief Stephen Chemas.

A suicide note retrieved from the left pocket of his trouser attributed his death to a family dispute concerning the family land distribution.
