A daring heist by a house help who vanished with Ksh2.2 million (900) from her employer’s home has come to a dramatic end after her arrest in Malava, Kakamega County, Western Kenya.
The suspect, 29-year-old Fleviar Muhonja Anaya, was apprehended through a coordinated effort by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Nairobi Regional Headquarters and their Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau counterparts.
The theft occurred on March 16, 2025, on what seemed like an ordinary day for the employer, who left Muhonja at home while attending to errands. However, suspicion arose when a security guard reported seeing Muhonja leaving with a large carrier bag.
Upon being questioned, she claimed she was delivering something for her employer.

Concerned by the guard’s report, the employer attempted to reach Muhonja, only to find her phone switched off. Rushing back home, she was met with shock and distress—the Ksh2.2 million ($16900) she had kept safely in her bedroom had vanished, along with her house help.
Immediately, detectives launched investigations, using forensic leads to track down the suspect. Their efforts paid off when Muhonja was cornered and arrested in Malava, Kakamega County.
Upon interrogation, she led the detectives to Kapsoi, Vihiga County, where Ksh700,000 (00) was recovered from her grandmother’s house.
The operation extended to her rural home in Kipkaren, Uasin Gishu County, where detectives found three chain links allegedly bought using the stolen cash. The breakthrough continued in Nairobi’s South B, Fuata Nyayo area, where an additional Ksh800,000 ($6200) was recovered from her rented house.
Now in custody at Capitol Hill Police Station, Nairobi, Muhonja is undergoing processing and is set to be arraigned in court to face charges of theft and possession of stolen property.
