Information, Communications and the Digital Economy CS Eliud Owalo officially opened the 25th Senior Policy Seminar of the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) at a Nairobi hotel on Wednesday.
The Seminar, whose theme is Human Capital Development in Africa, brings together over 1,000 scholars, policymakers and top-level leaders across Africa and elsewhere to participate in the hybrid conference.
Speaking during the launch, Owalo called on the participants to reflect on human capital
development and place it in the context of the emerging new brave world of digital technology.
The CS noted that the world has entered the age of blockchains, robotics, artificial intelligence, internet of things, among many emerging trends in the digital space.
Owalo called for resilience, creativity, audacity and energy of the African youth who must be
turned around to be a blessing to the continent in the merging digital world.
He further noted that AERC is most relevant to Kenya and the rest of Africa, especially in this age of migration to the digital space when Information, Communications and Technology are emerging as the grand driver of everything.
The Senior Policy Seminar provides timely opportunities for African policymakers and scholars to reflect together on challenges to Africa’s development and explore available opportunities and challenges.
