A multi-agency security team has apprehended several individuals in separate operations following a crackdown on illicit drugs.
These coordinated efforts underscore the growing determination of law enforcement to curb the sale, distribution, and consumption of illicit drugs across the nation.
The first operation occurred at a roadblock on Sabaki Bridge in Msufini, where security officers intercepted a red motorcycle.
Upon conducting a search, the officers discovered 50 rolls of dry plant material wrapped in khaki paper, along with two bundles of loose dry plant material wrapped in old newspapers, both suspected to be cannabis.
The contraband was found hidden in a yellowish gunny bag carried by John Hero Komora, 31, who was riding as a pillion passenger.
The motorcycle’s three occupants, including Komora, were immediately arrested and are currently in custody. Authorities have confirmed that the suspects will be arraigned in court to face charges related to the possession of illegal drugs.
In a separate but related operation, detectives from the Transnational Organized Crimes Unit and the Anti-Narcotic Unit, acting on a tip-off from members of the public, raided an apartment in Athi River, Machakos County.
The raid targeted the residence of Teresia Mwikali Amukua, where authorities discovered two greenish gunny sacks and four packages of dry plant material, also suspected to be cannabis.
Additional items recovered from the scene included empty gunny sacks, polythene papers, a debit card, and a weighing scale, which investigators believe was used in the drug distribution process.
Amukua was arrested and detained at Muthaiga Police Station. She is expected to be arraigned at the JKIA Law Courts, where she will face drug trafficking charges.
