A Nairobi court has sentenced to Death Joseph Irungu, popularly known as Jowie, after he was found guilty of murdering businesswoman Monica Kimani.
In her ruling on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, Justice Grace Nzioka said there was enough evidence showing that Jowie killed Monica.
“I have ordered that the first accused before this court, Joseph Kuria Irungu alias Jowie, shall suffer death as provided for the offence of murder under section 204 of the penal code of Kenya,” said the judge.
According to Justice Nzioka, Monica Kimani’s murder was intentional, saying it was neither a defensive nor provocational act.
Citing the probation report, the judge said the convict used a dangerous weapon to commit the heinous act.
She revealed that the prosecution had requested the court to consider handing Jowie a death sentence, noting that he has undesirable behaviours.
He lacks stable partner relationships. He has antisocial patterns manifested by living on the edge. He is impulsive and a thrill seeker. He uses anger or aggression to control others. Has a double personality trait,” the probation report read in part.
Jowie was found guilty of killing Monica on February 9, 2024. His sentencing was slated for March 8 but was delayed after his lawyers requested for more time to file his responses to a pre-sentence report.
Monica Kimani was murdered in her Nairobi apartment on the night of September 19, 2018, and her body was found in her bathtub the following day.
