Kenya’s National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula on Monday hosted the Ambassador of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to Kenya, Mr. Mahi Boumediene.

The Ambassador had paid Speaker Wetang’ula a courtesy call at his office at Parliament. Amb. Mahi, appointed in March 2023, presented credentials on June 7, 2023. This was his maiden visit to Parliament.

The Courtesy call comes after the Speaker, Moses Wetang’ula, visited Algeria in mid-February this year.

During the visit, the Speaker delivered a special message from President William Ruto to Abdelmajid Tebboune, the president of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria.

During the visit, President Abdelmajid Tebboune granted a fertiliser donation to Kenya and offered a one-year differed payment of fertiliser that Kenya will be willing to buy from Algeria and future commercial contracts at a preferential price.

In the meeting, the Speaker acknowledged that the two countries cordial relationship had flourished.

He told the Ambassador their continued engagements are crucial for strengthening the longstanding and close relationship between the two countries.

Kenya opened a Resident Mission in Algiers in 2015, while Algeria opened its Mission in Kenya in 2018. The two also committed to reviving their respective Parliamentary friendship.

“There are many areas of collaborations, trade and market our agricultural products like Coffee and Tea and I will also send an invite to my counterpart Speaker, this will enhance a stronger relation between the Parliaments,” said Speaker.

Algeria recently donated a VIP van and a full-kitted ambulance to the National Assembly.

The Government of Algeria has also extended two hundred scholarships spanning 20 fields.
