Kenyan MPs will join their Djibouti counterparts to enhance Parliamentary Diplomacy by establishing a Kenya- Djibouti Parliamentary Friendship Group.
Kenya’s National Assembly speaker, Moses Wetang’ula, said that the collaboration will engineer engagements between the two parliaments in bringing their people together and closer in free trade and free movement of people, goods, and services into the region.
Speaking at the Djibouti National Assembly National Assembly Speaker, Wetang’ula said that Djibouti and Kenya are members of IGAD and COMESA and share a vision and destiny in ensuring that the Horn of Africa and the Eastern African region are integrated in pursuit of development for their people.
While delivering his address at the National Assembly of Djibouti presided over by the President of the National Assembly, Dileita Mohamed Dileita, Speaker Wetang’ula acknowledged the support by Djibouti in Kenya’s quest to host the UN bodies in the region.
Dr Wetang’ula commended the efforts put forth by both countries when there was a resurgence of piracy along the Eastern Coast of Africa and resisted the threats posed by piracy.
He encouraged the two Parliaments, D, Djibouti and Kenya, to foster climate change through legislative processes and policies that, in turn, will help the region mitigate and adapt to the uncertainties of climate change.
He indicated that after signing the joint commission for cooperation by Kenya and Djibouti recently, it was time for the people of Djibouti to enter Kenya Visa-free and engage with Kenya on diplomatic and trade matters to move together as the Horn of Africa region.
He delivered a good news message that in the next two months, Kenya Airways would start direct flights from Nairobi to Djibouti to create and enable seamless movement and connection for goods and services and visitors from both countries.
