The Kenyan government has banned the country’s sale, use and distribution of Yoni pearls.
In a statement, Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) said the products, also known as herbal tampons, cleansing pearls, or vaginal pearls, are not registered and licenced for use in the country.
“The PPB notifies the public that Yoni pearls are neither registered nor authorised for use in Kenya as required under the Pharmacy and Poisons Act Cap 244,” PPB CEO Fred Siyoi said. Therefore their usage poses potential health risks as the PPB cannot guarantee their quality safety and efficacy,” said PPB CEO Siyoi.

“In light of this, PPB strongly advices against the distribution, supply, sale or use of the aforementioned product and any other unregistered products with similar claims,” he added.
The PPB has invited the general public and healthcare practitioners to report any questionable health items or technology to the board via the website or using the USSD code *271#.
