Kenya has launched the second phase of a comprehensive polio vaccination campaign slated for October 7.
This program is essential in the ongoing efforts to battle the recent polio epidemic in Garissa County, Northern Kenya, which began in June of this year.
The five-day event seeks to reach 3,119,158 children under five throughout all targeted sub-counties, with a target of 3.1 million children in this age range.

It targets 10 high-risk counties: Mandera, Wajir, Tana River, Lamu, Kitui, Machakos, Kiambu, Kajiado, Nairobi, and Garissa.
During a media and stakeholder meeting on Thursday, Ms. Mary Muriuki, Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, underlined the Ministry’s steadfast commitment to polio eradication in Kenya.
She underlined the need to take decisive action to protect children and communities.
“I, therefore, urge all parents to ensure their children receive all the required vaccine doses to prevent further polio outbreaks. This process begins with the birth dose and continues with additional doses at 6 weeks, 10 weeks, and 14 weeks,” said PS Mary Muriuki.
