Kenya Meat EXPO 2023 officially kicked off on Wednesday, April 3, 2023, at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), Nairobi.
The 3-day event, which has brought together Kenyan meat industry players, and development support agencies, aims to improve the performance of the meat industry in the country.
The theme for this year’s meat expo is “Promoting Resilience in the Meat Industry through Investment and Innovation for job creation and economic growth”.
It aims to showcase what both levels of government and other meat industry stakeholders have been doing to improve production, meat quality assurance, meat marketing, and trade.
“Currently, there are 14 different laws governing the administration of the meat industry, and the government is in the process of amending 4 laws to stimulate the livestock secto to improve the meat industry,” said the Ministry of Agriculture.
The four are the Livestock Bill, Veterinary Public Health Bill, and the Animal Welfare and Protection Bill.
The Kenyan government is currently developing a comprehensive livestock master plan to allocate resources to priority areas of investment unique to each county.
“At the moment, we’re providing insurance services, to cushion livestock farmers against drought and minimize the destitution of farmers in the ASAL areas,” added the Ministry.
