Police in Kenya on Sunday seized 379kgs cannabis sativa worth Ksh11 million (USD$74000) in Kisii, the Southwestern part of the country.

The seizure resulted from an intelligence-led operation conducted by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives.

In a statement, DCI said that its officers were on patrol when they saw a white Toyota Prado loaded with a suspicious consignment heading towards a nearby Kilgoris town.

The officers signalled the vehicle’s driver to stop, but he defied the orders.

“He sped off at breakneck speed and upon reaching Magena area, he made a quick U-turn back towards Kanyenye,” said DCI.

When he realized he was being trailed, he abandoned the vehicle and escaped on foot.

The vehicle was towed to a nearby police station pending investigations.
