Kenya Power has advised its customers to use alternative means to purchase tokens, citing system failure.

In a statement, the utility asked customers to purchase tokens from our banking halls, Airtel Money, and authorised banks.

The firm said its customers have been unable to buy tokens as a result of a network menace due to a network breakdown.

“We are experiencing a system hitch due to a network breakdown from our service provider. Consequently, some of our services such as the purchase of prepaid tokens through M-Pesa and USSD Code *977# are unavailable,” read the statement in part.

This comes amid rumours that a group of Sudanese hackers has allegedly hacked the company’s system.’

Information, Communication and Digital Economy earlier confirmed that the government platform, e-Citizen, which hosts 5000 services, has been hacked.

Apart from eCitizen and Kenya Power, there are claims that hackers have also attacked Safaricom App.

Kenya Power apologised to its customers for the inconvenience caused, promising to restore everything back to normal as soon as possible.

“We are working with our service provider to restore the affected services as soon as possible. We apologise to our customers for the inconvenience caused,” stated the firm.
