Kenya Power and Lighting Company Ltd Managing Director Bernard Ngugi has resigned, Kenya Power Board of Directors announced.

Rosemary Oduor has been appointed the new MD in an acting capacity.

She has been serving as General Manager in charge of Commercial Services and Sales.

“Rosemary has a wide experience in power engineering and management having joined the company in 1991and served in various senior positions,” the board chair Vivienne Yeda.

The board did not reveal why Mr Ngugi exit after working with the company for over 30 years.

He was appointed MD in 2019 after a clean-up at the power distributor following scandals that bedevilled it. Only Ngugi and the other two top managers survived the purge.

The outgoing MD took over from Jared Othieno, who acted as the director for less than a year.

The firm is currently facing a big challenge after more Kenyans switch to solar power.
