The Kenya national rugby sevens team, Shujaa, has qualified for the 2024 Olympic Games after winning the Rugby Africa Men’s Sevens trophy.

The Shujaa defeated pre-tournament favourites South Africa 17-12 in a tight final on Sunday in Harare, Zimbabwe.

The Shujaa gained an early lead thanks to Patrick Odongo but trailed 12-7 at halftime after Selvyn Davids and Christie Grobbelaar scored.

Odongo scored twice in the second half to tie the game before John Okoth scored the winning try, which qualified Kenya for the Olympics.

Kenya has joined France, New Zealand, Argentina, Fiji, Australia, Uruguay, Ireland, and the United States in the Paris lineup due to the overwhelming victory.

The last three spots will be determined via qualification competitions in Oceania and Asia and the Olympic repechage tournament.

South Africa and Uganda, who placed third, can still compete in the Olympics because both have qualified for the Olympic repechage competition.
