Kenya’s Pharmacy And Poisons Board (PPB) on Wednesday recalled two popular drugs following complaints from the public members.

In a statement, PPB said the drugs, Iodixanol and the Paracetamol oral solution, have not met the prescribed market authorization requirements.

“We received several complaints regarding quality defects and suspected adverse events associated with suspected substandard and falsified (SF) batches of Visipaque (Iodixanol) 320 mg/mL vial,” read the statement in part.

While Paracetamol is manufactured by a Kenyan company called Biopharma Ltd, Iodixanol was smuggled into the country by unscrupulous traders who had not acquired approval.

As a result, the board have called on the health facilities to stop distributing the two drugs.

“We advise all pharmaceutical outlets, healthcare facilities, healthcare professionals to stop all further distribution, sale, issuing, or use of Tamedol oral solution,” read the statement further.

Public members have been urged to return the products to the nearest healthcare facility.

On the other hand, healthcare facilities have been instructed to take back the drugs to their suppliers.

Furthermore, the board asked the public to remain more vigilant and report any suspected cases of substandard medicines.
