Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has unveiled the online auction.

Once a physical operation, the auction is a component of KRA’s technological methods to simplify tax administration processes to improve service delivery and revenue collection.

The new process is anticipated to support government initiatives to clear goods quickly and effectively and reduce port congestion.

Speaking during the Taxpayers’ Month Launch, KRA Commissioner General Humphrey Wattanga stated that the online auction will allow taxpayers to appreciate the openness of the bidding process.

He stated that the negotiating process will be faster and more open to registered taxpayers across the country and around the world.

According to the Commissioner General, KRA has planned many events to give back to society and reward obedient taxpayers.

He stated that the KRA continually works to improve voluntary compliance among taxpayers and asked them to participate in the scheme before it expires on June 30, 2024.

“All taxpayers are welcome to apply for waiver; for those who did not file their returns and accrued penalties for non-filing, they automatically qualify, and should go ahead and file their returns,” said Humphrey Wattanga.

On his part, Cabinet Secretary of National Treasury And Economic Planning, Prof Njuguna Ndung’u, said besides giving back to the society, the Tax Amnesty programme is one of the government’s fiscal policy measures to cushion Kenyans.

It will also strengthen economic resilience during the adverse domestic and external headwinds being experienced globally.

The Cabinet Secretary said the government is aware of the present shifting environment and would continue to assist the capacity of private firms to adapt via reforms.

This will provide commercial value for businesses, hence promoting economic progress.

“Tax amnesties are projected to bring in additional revenue as taxpayers voluntarily report and pay taxes that may never be collected by the government. The amnesty programme is expected to improve tax compliance as tax administrations learn from taxpayers’ previous behaviours, thereby allowing them to plan better,” said CS Njuguna Ndung’u.
