Kenyan Doctors Threaten To Boycott Their Duties

Text Size:

A 30-day strike warning has been issued by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) in response to what they claim is the government’s inability to uphold their collective bargaining agreement (CBA).

Dr. Davji Atellah, Secretary General of the KMPDU, stated that in 2017, they signed a CBA with the county and national governments, which has since been overlooked.

In contrast, contrary to what was agreed upon in the CBA, the government has not promoted physicians, hired additional physicians, or provided medical equipment needed by physicians.

“We have written letters trying to have actions from National and County governments. By the time we have given notice of intend of industrial action, we have exhausted all the available avenues. An agreement that has been signed by the state has to be honoured,” said Davji.
