Kenyan Former Cop Charged With Impersonation

Ex-police officer Davies Musindu Simiyu has been charged with impersonation in Nairobi’s Milimani law courts.

He was formerly attached at Dagorreti Police Post.

The court heard the suspect was arrested after he presented seven fake excise stamps to Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), purporting to be a police officer from the Dagoretti Police Post.

Milimani Law Courts Senior Resident Magistrate Zainab Abdul charged the officer with the offense of being in possession of excise stamps acquired without the authority of the Commissioner contrary to Regulation 30(1)(e) as read with the Regulations 30(2) of the Excise Duty (Excise Goods Management System) Regulations 2017.

He denied the charges and was released on a bond of Ksh. 200,000 ($2000) with surety of a similar amount or a cash bail of Ksh. 100,000 ($1000).

He was also directed to provide details of two contact persons.

If the court found him guilty, he shall be liable to a fine not exceeding Ksh.5million or imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years or both.
