Speaking during an interview with a local radio on Thursday, Owalo said the hacking was reported this week.

“There was an attack. They tried jamming the system by making more than ordinary requests into the system. It started by slowing down the system and we address it,” said Owalo.

Concerns of a cyber-attack on eCitizen first surfaced this week when Kenyans reported being unable to use the portal.

The platform houses 5000 government services.

Owalo called on the public not to panic, saying the government is establishing measures to address cyber security in collaboration with like-minded parties.

He said no data was lost during the attack.
