Police in Kenya are holding a 30-year-old man alleged to have filed his nine-year-old niece in Sakwa, defunct Nyanza Province.
The suspect, Lucas Wata, is said to have lured the minor to his house on Tuesday night before committing the act.
The local authority said the man also beat the Grade three girl when she tempted to raise the alarm.
After the incident, the minor reported the matter to her uncle, who informed other family members. They cornered him before he escaped, and frog marched him to a nearby police station.
The area acting Chief, Mr. William Oreme, condemned the act urging parents never to entrust anybody with their children.
Oreme lamented over moral decay in the society, which has found its way to the family.
The girl is currently undergoing treatment in hospital.
Police are investigating the matter, and upon completion, the suspect will be arraigned in court and charged with defilement.©Standard Gazette, 2021.
