Kenyan police have launched a probe into the murder of a woman and her eight-month baby by her former Boyfriend in Uasin Gishu, Kenya’s Rift Valley.
Philemon Kipchumba, the suspect, was reported to have travelled to Uasin Gishu from Elgeyo Marakwet County to reconcile with his ex-lover Hilda Chemeli.
However, after camping in the area for two weeks and being rejected by Hilda, the suspect lured the lady to the nearest river, where he strangled her and her baby before attempting to kill himself.
Following the murder, the suspect disposed of his former lover on the grass near the riverbank, and the child was immersed in water with a stone on top, keeping the corpse in place until residents discovered it.
According to the residents, Kipchumba was in the area to woo Hildah back.
They also revealed that Hildah sired the child with another man after breaking up with the suspect.
“The child is not his (Kipchumba’s). The suspect is an ex-boyfriend who met with the deceased at Biwott Secondary School, where she was studying,” reiterated one of the residents.
Until her death, Hildah was in form three, whereas Kipchumba form four.©Standard Gazette, 2021.
