A 45-year-old man from Lamu County, coastal Kenya, who forced his three daughters to undergo Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) has been sentenced to 12 years in jail.
Mpeketoni Senior Resident Magistrate Pascal Nabwana convicted him of the three charges of FGM and sentenced him to 4 years in each count, which will run consecutively, or a Ksh600,000 (USD3751) fine.
The accused was charged with aiding and abetting Female Genital Mutilation contrary to Section 20 as read with Section 29 of the Prohibition of Female Genital Mutilation Act 2011.
