The Parliamentary Caucus working against Drugs, Substance and Alcohol Abuse has vowed to eradicate rampant drug and alcohol abuse in the country.
Speaking during a meeting held on Tuesday, Members of the caucus tasked to raise awareness on the effects of drug and alcohol abuse across the country underscored the need to generate lasting solutions in the fight against the vice.
The legislators also noted the urgent need to address the abuse, which is directly linked to the rising cases of sexual assault, depression, poverty and suicide, among other ills bedevilling the society.
The caucus plans to collaborate with the Executive and other relevant agencies to combat the challenge effectively.
As a means to create a road map for this cause, the Members agreed to kickstart reviewing the existing regulations to introduce legislative interventions towards strengthening the regulatory framework and heighten awareness campaigns against the vice.
Their new strategy will also see them engage relevant agencies to scale up the fight against the menace.
