Kenyan Parliament Speaker Calls For Diplomacy In Resolving Russia – Ukraine Conflict

The Speaker of Kenya's Parliament, Moses Wetang'ula, wants the Russia-Ukraine war to be resolved through diplomacy.

Speaking to the Ukrainian Ambassador to Kenya, Mr. Andrii Pravendynyk, in Nairobi, speaker Wetang'ula said there is a need for an urgent solution to avert the ongoing conflict that has claimed lives and property.

Wetang'ula urged the two nations that have been fighting since February 24, 2022, to look for an amicable solution.

"Conflicts of whatever nature must be resolved in a peaceful and diplomatic manner," said Speaker Wetang'ula.

At the same time, Ambassador Andrii highlighted a prospective Kenya -Ukraine Education Scholarship programme for undergraduate students geared towards knowledge sharing and capacity building in technical and scientific fields.

In addition, they discussed ways of re-igniting Kenya's ailing agricultural sector to alleviate the country's perennial drought and food insecurity.

The Speaker committed to establishing a Kenya –Ukraine Parliamentary Friendship Group to advance the ideals of Parliamentary diplomacy and collaboration.
