Kenyan Premier League Resumes In Less Than Two A Fortnight

Kenya Premier League, popularly known as Betking Premier League, is set to restart on May 12, announced Football Kenya Federation (FKF).

The announcement was made by federation chief executive office Barry Otieno a few hours after President Uhuru Kenyatta lifted the ban on sporting activities. However, Mr. Otieno said that they would first consult with the Ministry of Health.

“We would have wished to resume straight away but protocol demands that we consult them first.  We plan to write to the Ministry of Sports to express our interest in resuming the FKF Premier League by May 12,” said the CEO.

A statement released by FKF later indicated that the top tier would resume on May 12 and other leagues to follow on May 15.

“Following the Presidential Address earlier today (May 1, 2021) and in consultation with both the FKF Leagues & Competitions Committee chairman and the FKF general secretary, we wish to inform you that plans are underway to have the leagues resume tentatively on Wednesday, May 12, 2021, for the Premier League and May 15, 2021, for the Super League and other leagues.

“We shall communicate the revised fixtures as soon as possible to enable clubs to prepare and plan accordingly,” read the statement.

Tusker FC is leading the log of 18 teams with 36 points, followed closely by KCB, who have 30 points despite playing one game less. AFC Leopards is in position three with 29 points with two games in hand.  Defending champions Gor Mahia are in position 7.
