A 47-year-old teacher has been jailed for 15 years for defiling a 16-year-old pupil.
The court heard that Athman Mohammed Jillo lured the minor into sexual activities in exchange for a good grade in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).
Jillo is a head teacher at Tana River County Primary School on Kenya’s coast.
Resident Magistrate Benson Kabanga sentenced him to a lengthy jail term after ruling that the prosecution had proved the case beyond reasonable doubt.
The prosecution, led by Prosecution Counsel Michuki Alfred, called eight witnesses who testified and established a case against the accused person.
In his sentence, Kabanga stated that Jillo abdicated his responsibility to protect his student from harm or abuse.
