A group of armed gunmen has shot dead an Early Childhood and Development Education (ECDE) teacher in Homa Bay, southwestern Kenya.

The gunmen are said to have raided the deceased’s home on Tuesday night fired three bullets in her head, killing her on the spot.

The 40-year-old teacher’s daughter was also injured during the attack after the stray bullets hit her in the stomach. She is currently receiving treatment in the local hospital.

What might have led to the shooting remains a mystery to the family of Clinis Atieno.

“I heard three gunshot sounds last night (Tuesday, June 15). When I rushed outside, I saw Atieno lying in a pool of blood, with a spoon clutched in her hand,” said the deceased’s mother-in-law Teresa Adera. Atieno was shot while washing utensils outside her house.

“Atieno rarely got in trouble with anyone. Every evening, upon returning home from work, she would visit her shop in Rangwe shopping centre. I am yet to know who she wronged,” she added.

The area residents have threatened to hold a peaceful demonstration should the police fail to arrest the perpetrators.

Nothing was stolen during the incident.
