Businesses and operations were affected in the better part of Tuesday following a nationwide blackout reported in Kenya.
In a statement, Kenya Power (KPLC) said the outage was occasioned by the collapse of the Kiambere -Embakasi high voltage transmission power line.
“We have lost power supply due to collapsed towers on the Kiambere-Embakkasi transmission line at 10.45 am this morning,” KPLC said.
The company announced its engineers were conducting repairs on the power line to restore the electricity supply.
“Our engineers are working to restore the electricity supply as the repairs are undertaken. An update on the restoration progress will be issued in due course,” added the statement.
The power outage occurred again on Monday, with KPLC refusing to specify the cause of the blackouts.
Kenya Power is the country’s sole electricity distributor, with Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) providing the majority of the country’s electricity.©Standard Gazette, 2021.
