Kenya’s Inspector General of Police, Mr. Hillary Mutyambai, elected the President of the Bureau of Afripol General Assembly.

Kenya has been elected to the coveted presidency of the Bureau of Afripol General Assembly for the next year.

The elections took place during the 4th Afripol General Assembly held on 20th October 2021.

In a virtual General Assembly with 115 participants from African Police (AFRIPOL), the Member States and cooperating partners, Kenya’s Inspector General of Police, Mr. Hillary Mutyambai, assumed the helm, representing the East Africa region.

The 1st Vice President is coming from Cote d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) and representing West Africa.

The second Vice President is from the Republic of Congo (representing Central Africa), 3rd Vice President from Botswana (representing South Africa), and the Rapporteur from Algeria (representing North Africa).

AFRIPOL, modeled on the philosophy and practice of UNPOL (United Nations Police), is structured cooperation of AU Member States law enforcement aiming to promote democratic policing values and attendant policing good practices amongst members.

Priority areas for AFRIPOL cooperation are transnational organized crime, counterterrorism, cyber crimes, and other emerging modes of criminality.

In his acceptance remarks for the honor to preside over the General Assembly, IG Hillary Mutyambai thanked member states for granting Kenya the opportunity to lead and assured them of his commitment to the success of the vision of AFRIPOL.
