Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has agreed to work with the Eastleigh Business District Association to strengthen tax outreach and awareness programs to improve compliance and revenue mobilisation.
Mr. Humphrey Wattanga, Commissioner General of KRA, stated at a Leadership round table between KRA and the Eastleigh Business District Association (EBDA) that KRA was committed to improving trade facilitation and simplifying tax payment for national prosperity and compliance.
He said that, as a result of this partnership, KRA would design its engagement and tax outreach strategy to meet the specific requirements of the Eastleigh Business Community, therefore driving compliance.
Mr. Ahmed Abdullahi, Chairman of EBDA, praised the effort by KRA, noting that regular engagements had substantially enhanced the Authority’s reputation within the business community.
“Our people are willing to work with KRA and contribute their share of taxes towards the 3 trillion mark, and even exceed it. Tax must be paid; tax evasion is criminal and whoever evades must face the full force of the law,” he said.
Mr. Abdullahi emphasised that the Business Community embraced Kenya’s aim of industrialisation, noting that it was time to invest and focus on production via industries, as this would generate more money for the government.
KRA praised the EBDA leadership for giving office space for the Tax Service Office, which has resulted in increased customer connections and engagements and their support for KRA compliance support services provided by Revenue Service Assistants (RSAs).
The Commissioner General reaffirmed KRA’s commitment to improving tax practices by advocating for the passage of business-enabling legislation and tax harmonisation within the East African Community to promote fair and competitive business practices.
He promised to keep working together to improve tax compliance.
