Veteran Kenyan journalist Leonard ‎Mambo Mbotela was on Monday sworn in as a member of the National Heroes Council following ‎his appointment last month.‎

Chief Justice Martha Koome led Mbotela, 82, in taking the oath.

The CJ said it is imperative that Kenya celebrate and appreciate its heroes and ‎heroines since the country’s national story is largely the story of the contribution of our ‎heroes to the project of nation-building.‎

‎”We can build a new culture and practice of identifying, celebrating ‎, and supporting our unsung heroes and heroines when they’re still with ‎us,” she said. ‎

Koome noted it is the only modest way through which we can show ‎appreciation for their heroic acts.‎

She added: “I urge you and other Council members to reverse this long-standing trend so that we can build a new culture and practice of identifying, ‎celebrating, and supporting our unsung heroes and heroines when they are ‎still with us.”‎

In August 2022, Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Culture, and Heritage Amina Mohamed appointed Mbotela as a council member.

He will serve as a member for three years with effect from August 5, 2022.
