Leonard Mambo Mbotela Sworn In As A National Heroes Council Member
Veteran Kenyan journalist Leonard Mambo Mbotela was on Monday sworn in as a member of the National Heroes Council following his appointment last month.
Chief Justice Martha Koome led Mbotela, 82, in taking the oath.
The CJ said it is imperative that Kenya celebrate and appreciate its heroes and heroines since the country's national story is largely the story of the contribution of our heroes to the project of nation-building.
"We can build a new culture and practice of identifying, celebrating , and supporting our unsung heroes and heroines when they're still with us," she said.
Koome noted it is the only modest way through which we can show appreciation for their heroic acts.
She added: "I urge you and other Council members to reverse this long-standing trend so that we can build a new culture and practice of identifying, celebrating, and supporting our unsung heroes and heroines when they are still with us."
In August 2022, Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Culture, and Heritage Amina Mohamed appointed Mbotela as a council member.
He will serve as a member for three years with effect from August 5, 2022.©Standard Gazette, 2021.
