The driver of a truck carrying bricks lost control and rammed several motorcycles and other vehicles at a gas station in Kendu Bay, southwest Kenya, on Thursday, killing one person and seriously injuring five others.

The lorry hit vehicles refueling at the Aftah filling station at the intersection of the Homa Bay-Katito and Gendia-Kendu Bay roads.

The vehicle drove straight to the gas station, colliding with three cars and the motorcyclist. The motorcyclist was killed when he attempted to flee the area as the lorry sped towards him.

The lorry’s brakes most likely failed as it moved downhill.
“It was descending downhill where vehicles should move at a slow speed when approaching the main road,” said the local authority.

The injured were rushed to Kendu Bay Sub-County Hospital, while the motorcyclist’s body was taken to the morgue.
