A 36-year-old man, who raped a woman in Mbooni, Makueni County, southeastern Kenya, is currently in custody being processed to answer to rape charges.
Munyao Muoka was handed over to police by an irate mob that almost lynched him after he was cornered trying to flee after the woman raised the alarm.
According to the victim, she was headed home from the market, where she plied her trade when the man who demanded money from her accosted her.
When she became hesitant, the man placed a knife on her neck and snatched her day’s sales. He then covered her mouth with a piece of cloth she was carrying before committing the despicable act.
After the ordeal, the victim rushed towards a nearby market where she raised the alarm prompting the angry public members to go after the suspect with furry.
Police officers immediately rushed to the scene, rearrested the suspect and escorted him and the victim to the hospital for necessary medical tests and treatment.
