A man who was arrested in connection to the murder of Karatina University Student Phylis Jepleting Jeruto has pleaded guilty.

Ezra Kipkemei, a security guard, admitted to having killed Jeruto before Nakuru Justice Theresia Matheka.

The lifeless body of Phyllis Jepleting, a Maths/Biology first-year student at Karatina University, was found inside Ezra Kipkemoi's house at Naka Estate, Nakuru County, by detectives from the office of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

The body was found after neighbours complained about a foul smell coming from Mr. Kipkemoi's home.

They called the cops, who broke down the door with the help of welders and neighbours and discovered Ms Jepleting's lifeless body on the bed. The body had blood oozing from the mouth, nose and ears.

They used Ms. Jepleting's identifying papers, which were found at the site and were used to identify her body.

Kipkemoi was later smoked out of his hiding place in Nandi, Kenya's Rift valley.

The case will be mentioned on January 24, 2023.
