Man Dies After Mine Collapsed

A man has been confirmed dead after a mine wall fell at a sand harvesting location in Migori County, Kenya’s southwestern region.

Daniel Wairimu Chacha, 31, was mining sand alongside his two brothers, John Chacha and Samwel Chacha when the incident happened.

According to local officials, the deceased was extracted from the debris by the brothers, assisted by public members. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead while receiving treatment.

The deceased’s body was subsequently transferred to a mortuary pending an autopsy and police inquiries.

Miners in the region have been advised to wear protective equipment when carrying out mining activities.
