A man accused of murdering a sex worker in a Nairobi guest room was on Tuesday arraigned in Court.
Appearing before High court judge Justus Bwonwong’a, Martin Njathi was charged with murdering Elizabeth Wanjiru on the night of July 30 and 31, 2021, at Bulls K Annex Guest House within Nairobi CBD.
The suspect denied the charges and was released on a cash bail of Sh100,000 with a surety of a similar amount.
According to reports, Njathi choked the woman after she declined his Ksh800 (US$8)offer for sex.
The accused person was reported to have gone to the lodge accompanied by an unknown woman and booked a room where they spent the night.
Njathi allegedly awoke at 5 a.m. the following morning, left the room alone, and told the receptionist he wanted to check out.
The security guard asked him about the whereabouts of the deceased, his friend after it started to look suspicious. When they returned, they discovered the woman lying naked in bed, looking to be dozing off. They attempted to wake her up, but she was unresponsive to touch or sound.
When police arrived on the scene, they confirmed that the woman was dead and that blood was gushing from her privates.
