Man in possession of a homemade gun arrested

Police officers at Namwichula Farm in Mubere Sub-Location, Trans Nzoia County, Kenya’s Rift Valley, have arrested a 51-year-old man found in a possession of a home-made gun.

“Police officers from Kimwondo Police Station received a report from members of the public that an individual living in their midst had a firearm in his rental house,” read a portion of a statement released by the National Police Service.

The officers responded swiftly and conducted a search in the house of Robert Barasa Kiptein, leading to the recovery of a homemade gun capable of firing but with no ammunition.

An empty ammunition carrier typically used by armed services was also recovered at the scene.

The arrest came at a time when security agencies are making headway in recovering illegal arms with security operations being conducted in various parts of the country.

Police have lauded the locals for immediately alerting security officers.

“We appreciate that citizens are now more cognizant of the shared responsibility of the police and the community in ensuring a safe environment and the willingness to provide information and work together with the police, “read the statement further.
