Police are holding a middle-aged man in Mathioya, central Kenya, over the alleged murder of his stepson.

Charles Githua is suspected of having committed the beastly act on Sunday, September 11, 2022.

The suspect's estranged wife told the police that Githua requested her to release her children to spend time with him on the fateful day as it has been a routine.

"He called me on Sunday morning and said he was waiting for the kids at their usual location and would bring them back. He had been picking up the kids on Sundays to go buy them candy or cakes, so I had no reason to be concerned about their safety," she said.

A few hours later, the man called his wife again, and the deceased told the mother they were in a forest. The third time the suspect called, she heard a child crying in the background.

"He told me he has finally fulfilled my wish, which I didn't understand," she said.

Later that evening, the man returned with only one child and did not reveal where the other child was, according to Nancy Mumbi, the suspect's wife.

Mumbi contacted family members and residents who had joined the search for the missing child.

On Monday, September 12, in the evening, his body was discovered dangling from a tree on the man's farm.

He had biting marks all over his body and appeared to have been strangled to death.
