A Kenyan court has sentenced a man to five years imprisonment or a staggering fine of Ksh 3,000,000 ($23000) for his involvement in the illegal trade of endangered wildlife species.
Nicodemus Langat Kipgorola was found guilty of violating Section 92(3) of the Wildlife Conservation and Management Act, 2013, for dealing in a live Pangolin, a species protected under the law.
The court determined that Kipgorola unlawfully possessed the 60-centimetre-long Pangolin without the requisite permit or lawful exemption.
Kabarnet Principal Magistrate Hon. Caroline Ateya said enough evidence shows the suspect committed the crime.
The prosecution presented four witnesses.
