Police are investigating an incident where a 42-year-old man allegedly shot his wife dead before killing himself in their Kiambu home in central Kenya.
Jonathan Mukundi Gachunga, a licensed firearm holder, was reported to have shot his wife Philomena Njeri,30, in the head before taking away his life.
It was said that he shot himself in the head using the same weapon in their bedroom. What might have triggered Jonathan to commit such a horrible act is yet to be established.
Jonathan’s friend, out of suspicion, reported to Kiambu Police Station after he failed to pick his call. Accompanied by the police, they stormed their house and their bedroom, which had been looked at from the inside, and found their lifeless body.
“Together with the officers from Kiambu police station proceeded to his house where the bedroom was found lock from inside. The door was broken where the bodies of the said Jonathan Mukundi Gachunga and his wife namely Phelomena Njeri adult aged around 30 years were found lifeless,” read the police report.
Elsewhere, a form four student at Nyarongi Mixed Secondary School in Migori, southwestern Kenya, has committed suicide.
The female student took away her life on Wednesday morning in the school’s dormitory. She hanged herself using cloth.
Preliminary investigations show that she exhibited symptoms of depression and repeatedly indicated she wanted to take away his life.©Standard Gazette, 2021.
