The primary suspect in the kidnapping and eye-gouging of a 3-year-old boy in Marani, Kisii County, Southwestern Kenya, has been arrested.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) apprehended Alex Maina Ochoki, 26, on Sunday night, and he was lodged at the Marani Police station.
Baby Junior Sagini’s cousin Ochoki is suspected of gouging out the child’s eyes for ritual purposes as part of a plot involving the suspect’s mother.
Police said the suspect will face attempted murder, while the boy’s mother has also been arrested and will be charged with negligence.
After being abducted on Wednesday night, Baby Sagini was found on Thursday with his face splattered in blood at his family’s banana farm.
The child underwent surgery and is now recovering in the general department at the Kisii Eye Hospital. According to doctors, the tragedy left the toddler blind.
The assailant allegedly kidnapped the boy while playing outside his grandmother’s house at 6 p.m.
